Jupiter homes for sale: Why is Abacoa so popular?
April 27, 2015 | Richard Sites
Jupiter has always been a favorite spot for those fortunate enough to be able to call it home. And anyone who can live in Jupiter…does! When I first moved here 25 years ago we would the south side of Jupiter to Mecca Farms and picked vegetables from the U-pick. Now this area is known as Abacoa.
Abacoa, built by DiGuardiola and Rendina, sits on this site. Abacoa is bordered by Donald Ross Road on the south, Alt. A1A on the east, Indian Creek Parkway on the north, and the communities of Egret Landing and North Palm Beach Heights on the west.
There are 18 neighborhoods within Abacoa and the design theme was “Live, Work & Play here”. The central core is the Town Center with shops and restaurants, a small amphitheater and the nearby Roger Dean Stadium.
The stadium is home to the Florida Marlins and the St. Louis Cardinals for spring training then the Jupiter Hammerheads play there the rest of the season. This means almost any day of the week you can catch a baseball game.
Florida Atlantic University has an Honors Campus here and G4S USA, Scripps Institute and the Max Planck Society all have locations here.
Across the street, the Abacoa Golf Club is open to the public, something rare in an area dotted with exclusive, private clubs like Admirals Cove and Mirasol.
Homes for sale in Abacoa offer something for everyone. There are small condos above the shops on Main Street, 3 story townhouses where the zoning permits small businesses to operate on the first floor and every size and priced home up to those on Valencia Blvd. where the prices top $ 1 million.
The home designs differ from the classic Americana style of New Haven to the more contemporary homes being built in Windsor Park. Most have front porches to encourage neighborly visits.
Most of the Abacoa neighborhoods have garages in the back accessed by an alley and many, like the one pictured here, have balconies on the second floor. And there are usually around 80 Abacoa homes for sale.
For all these reasons, and the proximity to the beach, Abacoa is very popular and homes for sale only stay on the market days when offered. Unlike many agents I have lived here 25 years and can show you the best locations to meet your needs.
