Rickie Fowler: Jupiter resident finishes 2nd at Phoenix Open
February 8, 2016 | Richard Sites
The Phoenix Open was won this afternoon H. Matsuayma with Jupiter resident Rickie Fowler finishing 2nd. Attendance at the event topped 200,000 for the first time and Matsuyama’s share of the winnings was $1,170,000. The total purse was $6.5 million.
Rickie, ranked 4th in the world, is seen around town since he purchased his riverfront home a couple of years ago. Here’s a picture of him when he was spotted by a friend in the local smoothie shop.
He frequents the same barbershop my son uses and a couple of weeks ago my dad and I ran into him in a local breakfast house. He is also very active on Instagram.
Now that Tiger has withdrawn from the Honda Classic, Rickie and other local players will certainly be enough of a draw to pull in the crowds now predicted to be near 165,000.
In addition to Rickie, other PGA Tour players living in the area include Keegan Bradley, Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy, Steve Marino and Camilo Villegas. Of course, a cast of senior players also call this area home. Most of the younger players will be found at the Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens later this month.
