MICHAEL JORDAN’S JUPITER RESTAURANT: “1000 NORTH”
November 13, 2016 | Richard Sites
Jupiter resident Michael Jordan is a partner in a new restaurant opening on the Jupiter Inlet. Like his friend Tiger Woods, he found Jupiter to his liking and is expanding his influence here. Construction is underway on the site.
The location, across from the Jupiter Lighthouse, is the last spot available for a new restaurant. Jordan, along with another 12 investors, are building on the site formerly occupied by Charley’s Crab and Brix. The view, seen below, looks across the Jupiter Inlet to the condos in Jupiter Cove.
Charley’s Crab went out of business when he died crossing the Gulf Stream from the Bahamas in his sailboat. For some reason, Brix also went out of business.
Several eateries, like Bubba Gumps, have failed along the inlet yet others are mobbed. It is hard to find a seat in U Tiki or the Square Grouper, particularly when the weather is as great as it is today. Over on the mainland, Dune Dog almost always has a wait. I’ve been told the crowds at Dune Dog started coming after it was featured on a food show.
Jordan’s new spot, called 1000 North, will have about 325 seats with 75 of them outdoor on the water and have docks so you can arrive by boat.
Jordan lives in The Bear’s Club where he purchased two lots for $4 million and built a home that resembles a resort. The neighbor’s complained about the size although it complies with all zoning regulations.
Rumor is that he will be building a private golf course since he is known for his fast pace of play and owning his own course should solve that problem.
Tiger’s restaurant, The Woods, is a very cool and contemporary spot and last Friday, when I was in there, every seat was taken.
If you find yourself in Jupiter, do yourself a favor and eat along the Inlet and try to go at dusk when the lighthouse is turned on. The view is spectacular, the breeze is perfect and the food is terrific.
