Luxury Country Clubs: We have them all in this area
October 30, 2015 | Richard Sites
Luxury country clubs are usually fairly rare in a geographic area. However in the Jupiter to Palm Beach Gardens area we have nearly every type you could imagine or wish for. Here’s a short list:
In Tequesta, there is Jupiter Hills which is an old and storied club. Here, only 202 residences sit among 355 acres and George Fazio designed golf courses. Bob Hope and William Clay Ford were two of the original investors. And of course, at a club like this, no tee times are required and a busy day in the season may see only 100 golfers play through. Nearby is the not-so-famous Tequesta Country Club which is enjoyed by the other 99%.
Moving south to Jupiter, there is the Jonathan’s Landing Golf Club. Built in the 1980’s, JL is one of our most unique clubs with 3 courses, fresh and salt water homes and optional membership. JL was built when land was not so expensive so there is a vast amount of common area with expansive views.
Right next door to JL is Admirals Cove, Jupiter’s premier waterfront club. Split into two parts, the East side is home to the main clubhouse and marina where yachting is the main feature. The West side is known as Golf Village and golf is the main theme there since it has only lakes not salt water. Both sides of the community share all amenities and it is not uncommon to see people traversing between the two areas on golf carts. There are a total of 941 homes in Admirals Cove.
A little further south along Donald Ross Road are Trump National Jupiter, The Bears Club and Frenchman’s Creek.
Trump National Jupiter was originally the Ritz-Carlton and has a limited number of estate homes on the Jack Nicklaus designed course along with fractional ownership properties and of course, a clubhouse and spa. Trump usually buys undeveloped land or older courses, like Doral, and puts his stamp on them so the purchase of the Ritz was unusual.
Next door to Trump is Jack Nicklaus’ private club, The Bears Club. Massive, expansive lots, heavy use of stonework and careful attention to the native vegetation give the club a unique feel. Prices are quite high for the homes and Michael Jordan paid $4 million for his 2 lots.
Across from these two clubs is Frenchman’s Creek. Frenchman’s, like JL, was built at a time when much land could be devoted to the common enjoyment and consequently there is an unhurried and relaxed feel here. And the club owns a beachfront location in Juno where members can go to the beach without leaving the expected level of service behind. This is the only club with such a feature.
On the south side of Frenchman’s Creek is the Toll Brothers community of Frenchman’s Reserve. These Mediterranean inspired homes were built around 2005-2006 and the community is wrapped around an Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course. There are some lakes but no ocean access. Residents of Frenchman’s Harbor and The Preserve also have access to the club facilities.
