JUPITER EXPANDS “DOG FRIENDLY” ATMOSPHERE
July 8, 2017 | Richard Sites
Jupiter is known as a family friendly town. And part of each family is no doubt the family dog…or two. Jupiter beach has always been “dog-friendly”, meaning you can bring your dog and let them run off the leash, but now a new “dog park” is opening in town.
Currently, there is one park in Jupiter located near the Intracoastal Waterway in The Bluffs. The new park will be opening in the heart of town on a site formerly planned for a Target store. Since Jupiter is so small it will be close to all the homes even those on the south side of town in Abacoa.
From the Palm Beach Post:
The $2.5 million park will include fenced-off areas for big and little dogs, a dog-drink station, landscaping, 2-acre wetlands area, a gazebo with picnic tables, bicycle racks, a restroom and lighted walkways for pedestrians.
Jupiter’s latest will include a tree house in a 50-foot tall banyan with ramps for the disabled. A playground also will be added. A community garden, similar to those in Abacoa and at the El Sol Neighborhood Resource Center, is planned.
The 13-acre Cinquez Park parcel, once proposed to be a Target store, was bought by the town in 2008 for $6 million. Access will be from Yancy Avenue and Carver Avenue. About 80 parking spaces are planned.
I take my dog to the beach as often as possible and one Saturday morning came across this Golden Retriever Meet Up.
California is famous for it’s dog-friendly beaches and it is nice to still have one available in South Florida. I grew up in South Florida and don’t know of any other dog friendly beaches along the SE coast.
