Tequesta: Is it part of Jupiter?
April 18, 2015 | Richard Sites
Many buyers are searching the Internet, logging in to lots of different sites, and are still wondering what in the world is Tequesta? And where in the world is Tequesta?
Tequesta is Jupiter’s sister city to the north. The Jupiter Inlet, complete with famous lighthouse, separates the two small areas. Jupiter calls itself a Town and Tequesta calls itself a Village.
Technically, Tequesta is a peninsula since it juts into the Loxahatchee River and separates the North Fork from the Northwest Fork. A peninsula, like the state of Florida, is surrounded by water on 3 sides. Tequesta fits this description.
It is surrounded by the river on two sides and the Intracoastal Waterway on the third. On the north side it is bounded by Jonathan Dickinson State Park. The park runs north about 8 miles until it hits Hobe Sound.
So between the river and the park, Tequesta is very quiet.
It has great public amenities with a post office (which is never crowded) and a branch of the Palm Beach Public Library system. So the area is undergoing a revitalization.
Housing here ranges from small 2/2 condos of about 1,100 square feet to massive, riverfront estates along the river running to several million in price. These waterfront properties have easy ocean access out the Jupiter Inlet.
A small part of Tequesta is in Martin County but for the residents in the Palm Beach County portion all schools are Jupiter’s “A” rated schools.
