Honda Classic: Local PGA Tour players make plans
January 16, 2016 | Richard Sites
The highlight of the local, professional golf scene is the upcoming Honda Classic. Played on The Champion course at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, the event will be populated with our local, resident PGA Tour players.
Many PGA Tour players call this area home and their number continues to grow. Some have even become active in the real estate scene here.
The most notable of course is Tiger Woods, who lives on Jupiter Island. The Honda Classic, once a second tier event, exploded in popularity when Tiger decided to play. Since then, other local residents have risen in the world golf rankings so the Honda is populated with some of the best players in the world who are also our neighbors.
Although Steve Marino and Mark Calcavecchia made the move to homes on the Loxahatchee River several years ago, the list of younger players moving to the area started with Keegan Bradley and Rickie Fowler who moved to the Northwest Fork of the Loxahatchee River. Then Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson moved here.
Dustin Johnson has become an active buyer and seller of luxury, waterfront homes. See this post.
Other notables in the golf world, like Gary Player, Jasper Parnevik and Greg Norman also live in the area. And Jack Nicklaus has lived here for decades.
