“Bergdorfs” staging: 3 basic steps to help sell your home
June 19, 2016 | Richard Sites
One of the big attractions on the streets of Manhattan is Bergdorfs on Fifth Avenue and 58th street. Even if they aren’t shopping, people regularly make the pilgrimage to the store to check out the window displays. It’s all about the staging.
Department stores regularly move the merchandise around inside to “freshen up” the appeal. It’s all about the staging.
New car shows rotate the cars, have pretty models standing nearby and polish the cars to perfection. Again, it’s all about the staging.
So, are you staging your home for sale? Staging is a big business but if you aren’t going to hire a pro, here are 3 basic steps that will help you sell.
You are going to move, right? So go ahead and pack up everything that will not impact your day to day living. Take down all the family photos, clean up the desk where you pay your bills, and maybe have a garage sale with the stuff. Then, pack up everything else and have a company like PODS pick it up and store it for you. The cost is very affordable and well worth it.
OK, now go through the house again and get rid of everything else that is cluttering up the place. Recycle all those magazines you wanted to read, eliminate all those DIY projects and try to make your house look like a model home. If you are not sure what to do, head over to some new homes on the market and see what professionals do when trying to sell. Check out Sonoma Isles and Alton for some ideas.
3. Clean, clean and then clean some more:
If you are trying to sell your Jupiter home, remember you are competing with new construction where every item in these model homes is new. So you must make your place look absolutely spotless every day. Yes, every day! This is where de-cluttering can help since there are fewer things to move daily. There is a saying that cleanliness is next to godliness and when trying to sell this is especially true.
For the last 13 years I have been helping folks sell quickly and move forward with their plans and I can do the same for you. Earlier this year, I spent 2 months helping a family in Tequesta get ready to sell and the house sold in just 1 day!
